Farewelder Club

Last Sunday saw the graduation 22 members (28%) of Hello!Project: Melon Kinenbi; former v-u-den members Okada Yui and Miyoshi Erika; soloists Satoda Mai, Matsuura Aya, Maeda Yuki, and Inaba Atsuko; and former Morning Musume members Nakazawa Yuko, Abe Natsumi, Iida Kaori, Yasuda Kei, Yaguchi Mari, Tsuji Nozomi, Ishikawa Rika, Yoshizawa Hitomi, Konno Asami, Ogawa Makoto, and Fujimoto Miki.

According to an article on Hello!Online, the concert featured the last performance of "LOVE Machine." To me, this is the most meaningful part of the whole ordeal. "LOVE Machine" has been the defining piece for Hello! Project for almost a decade, and to have it graduated was a bit bittersweet. I, and literally millions of others, adore the song, but Morning Musume, and H!P overall, can no longer exist just riding on its tailwind. It's time to sweep away the old and put out the new.

On the other hand, "LOVE Machine" is bad ass. So, I here it is. Let's cherish the old while embracing the new.

  1. What does "graduated" mean in this context?

  2. @Jordan: These women graduating from Hello! Project means that they will no longer be releasing stuff under the Hello! Project umbrella or performing at Hello! Project concerts. They are still signed with the same agency though. It's basically just an attempt at rebranding the Hello! Project. As for the song being graduated, I assume that means it is the last time it will be performed.
